After a strong international start of mountain bike downhill racing season over the past three weekends in Slovenia with first two rounds of iXS European Downhill Cup in Maribor and Kranjska Gora and the opening round of Mercedes-Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Maribor, this weekend the season also starts for the riders from Slovenia and Croatia.

For sure there will also be enough international guests in the start gate of the opening round of Unior Downhill Cup since it is starting on the island of Lošinj, Croatia. The venue gained international fame with the opening round of 2018 World Cup and UCI (Class 1) points will also be up for grabs.

The organizers are also the same as for the World Cup race: AK Lošinj and MTB Trbovlje.

The track from Sv. Ivan to town of Veli Lošinj will be very similar to last year's World Cup track. It has two new sections and it is easier to ride also for the riders not at World Cup level. But it will be a bit shorter since it ends on the road before the last street sections due to easier logistics. It will be approximately 1.5km long with an elevation drop of around 235m.

On Friday, the track will be open for track walk in the morning and first training session in the afternoon. On Saturday the training starts at 9am and ends at 2pm, then the seeding run starts at 3pm. Sunday's final run starts at 1.30pm. Find details in propositions

Registrations close Thursday night, May 9. By Monday riders from eight countries already entered the race.

Lošinj also hosted the inaugural Unior Downhill Cup race in April 2017. It was also a dress rehearsal for the 2018 World Cup race. The World Cup returns to the island on May 9 and 10 2020. The first downhill race was held there in 2013.
