Winners of Spank DH Maribor, fourth and last round of 2016 Slovenia downhill cup, at least in main categories, are also the ones who won the overall series titles: Jure Žabjek (Unior Tools Team) in elite men, Špela Horvat (Supersnurf) in women's category and Rudi Pintar (Rajd Funsports) in junior men.

When it was raining it most of the country the northern side of Maribor's Pohorje mountain remained dry. There were raindrops here and there but not enough to eliminate much of the dust on the course or even for anyone to consider changing tyres or putting tear-offs on their goggles.

So the crowd saw two runs on dangerously fast dry course which already put some riders on the injury list during Saturday's practice.

In the morning semi-final Miran Vauh (Blackthorn) was almost five second faster than Žabjek who had already pocketed the overall title before this race. Despite a bad crash in R'n'R section on Saturday (at least he got lots of facebook views for the video) Jan Cimperman (MTB Trbovlje Nakita) was also fast in third place.

Last race run of the season

In the finals all that changed in the top three was that the first two names switched. Jan improved his time by just over half a second, then Jure got really close to Miri's semi-final time. All than Miri had to do to take the win was to equal his semi time, but he crashed in a tight dust corner. He was still fast enough for second place.

There were only to women on start this time. Monika Hrastnik (Blackthorn) is still not ready for racing after her crash during Val di Sole World Championships 4cross final. Špela Horvat was much quicker than junior Tjaša Žordani (MTB Čelešnk) but she would have taken the overall title even without that.

Rudi Pintar took a strong win in junior men's race in front of Nejc Avbelj (Supersnurf) and Australian Riley Horseman (NSW)

Matic Kokelj (Wolf RT) won the U17 category, Austrian Andreas Maderbacher the masters, Marko Niemiz (Avče) was back on top in U15 boys after an injury, and Gregor Ferk (Epic Outdoor Crew) beat all the locals in sports class.

It was another great race on the classic World Cup course. Slovenian downhill scene really needs this one. Obviously it also needs the joined races with Croatian DH series because without the Croatian riders this race would have had a damned short start list.

See you in 2017, the 25th Slovenia MTB Cup (DH and XC) season!
