The 28th UCI Mountain Bike World Championships - lately this means racing for rainbow stripes in disciplines cross-country olympic, cross-country relay and downhill - will be held in Cairns, Australia from September 5th to 10th. The town in tropic Northern Queensland already hosted the event in 1996.

The Slovenian national team is a bit shorter this time due to travel costs. Slovenia only missed 1st Championships in USA in third in Canada so this will be 26th appearance for the green & blue team.

As team manager Urban Ferenčak explained, four Slovenian athletes met the criteria of Slovenia Cycling's MTB Commission and will be competing in Cairns. They are:

Tanja Žakelj (Unior Tools Team) - XCO women elite
Rok Naglič (Calcit Bike Team) - XCO U23 men
Monika Hrastnik (KK Črn trn) - DHI women elite
Jure Žabjek (Unior Tools Team) - DHI men elite
